Shorn from the whole, a shard of thee Much like a fruit fallen down from a tree Those who are born from the ink and page Timeless through time, yet still able to age Their thoughts and their memories wrought from the quill 'Till timeless tale's end, and all for them goes still The shard becomes whole, and so perfectly One could never tell 'twas once a shard of ye For this, though from fantasy did so derive A shard of the living is equally alive So it be that a shard from the heart it is shorn Becomes much like a child in the way it is born
Takes a powerful piece to wring a piece out of me. For a character is but a shard of a greater personality.
I wanted to maintain a large degree of open interpretation, so giving her an official name seemed like it would limit that. I have often referred to her as "Drawn Girl" which has worked well enough for people to know who I'm talking about.
There have been many edits. This isn't exactly the original, the original being an MS Paint comic I made even earlier. But ever since this one was made, others have fallen suit and created alternate endings or extended endings. This comic itself was so open to interpretation, any number of other artists could easily alter the story by tacking on a few new panels. And I've saved quite a few of them!
It wasn't really so much a controversy as it was people describing their opinions and their concerns. If it was a controversy, that might imply I'm trying to hide it or was ashamed of it. That's far from the case.
It's really just people concerned that I was promoting a certain standard of beauty above others.
